A New York City restaurant made headlines this week after declaring itself the first officially socialist restaurant in the country. Selling itself on being completely egalitarian, the restaurant goes so far as to make customers prepare, cook, serve and then pay for their own food.
The restaurant "Hammer and Sickle's”, made controversial headlines after it was also revealed that all money the restaurant makes is given strait to the government. “It really is socialism!” says Fox News Personality Sally McRally. “They make you dig your own grave and then pay for the bullet!....Only...it’s a restaurant, and you have to make your own food. And pay for it! And the government takes everything! Socialism!”
But some gave praise to the unusual dining spot. Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sander is quoted as saying “This is a great opportunity! An entire restaurant, devoted to socialism! Now, we can get sandwiches and delicious drinks, and feel good about not exploiting the working people or giving a dime to those greedy corporations!”
Despite the controversy, Hammer and Sickle’s has been packed every night since it opened, and there is no end in sight.
